JAMMU, Oct 1: Department of Management Studies, Government SPMR College of Commerce organized an Intra-College Debate Competition among the students of BBA, BCA, BCom, MCom and BCom honours on the topic “Are Social Networking Sites Useful or Harmful”.
Principal of the college, Prof Satinder Singh was the chief guest, who while speaking stressed upon the importance of conducting such events for the overall development of the students.
He emphasized on the role of expression through debates in a democratic country and also the participation of youth in the progress of the nation.
Prof Singh pointed out that social networking sites are useful tools to interact with the people who are geographically very far. He added that these sites should be used in such a away that it keep us in simplifying our lives. He also pointed out that such events would not only improve the personality but also help the students to exchange their views through such platforms.
Prof Bharti Slathia, HoD, Department of Management Studies, presented the welcome address and assured that such events will remain a continuous activity in the department in future.
Among others present were Prof Neeru Bhalla, campus incharge, HoDs of all the departments, faculty members and students.
The event was judged by Prof Gopal Sharma, Prof Archana Koul and Prof Meenu Mahajan.
Sahil Anand from BBA Department bagged the first prize, whereas Manas from BCom Department and Anandita from MCom Department claimed second and third positions respectively. The consolation prize was given to Hamreen Kour from BBA Department. The overall winning team title of the debate competition was bagged by BBA Department.
In the end, Lekha Nagar presented vote of thanks.
