‘Run for Peace’, ‘Cycling for Unity’ organized in Baramulla

Baramulla, June 24: As a prelude to the final event of ‘Baramulla Youth Festival’ to spread the message of peace and prosperity in Baramulla and unity between Army and Awam, ‘Run for Peace’ and ‘Cycling for Unity’ was organized, here today.
The race traversed through the heart of Baramulla along the National Highway. ‘Run for Peace’, 3.5 Km run attracted more than 200 youths from Baramulla and adjoining areas.  Similarly the ‘Cycling for Unity’ saw 187 cyclists participating in the 7.2 Km Speed Cycling Event.
Major General Gulab Singh Rawat, YSM, SM, GOC Dagger Division, while flagging off these sporting events urged upon the enthusiastic youth to adapt one sports event and vie for the top honours.
Prominent among others, Commander Dagger Artillery Brigade and Himalayan Brigade, Asst Commissioner (Revenue), DIG North Kashmir Region, SSP and CMO, Baramulla were also present to grace the occasion.
The final event of ‘Baramulla Youth Festival’ kicked off to an enthusiastic response and mass participation at Shoukat Ali Stadium Baramulla.
Celebrities Gauhar Khan for ‘Women Empowerment’ and former Test Cricketer Irfan Pathan for ‘Youth Empowerment’ were the star attractions, who added colour to the event.
The multifaceted event hosting range of activities included a ‘Job Fair’ by 13 prominent companies wherein ‘Walk-in-Interviews’ and immediate job placements were offered to more than 500 youth of the region.
The Sufi Musical Concert by Amir Group, and Wasim Raza Group, reflecting upon rich culture, traditions and values of Kashmiriyat added to the glitter of the day.
Always forthcoming in offering services to the Awam, the Free Medical Camp attended to the medical needs of about 2000 persons, thus reassuring Awam of continued support by the Army.  The event also included a ‘Know Your Army’ exhibition to educate the youth on various job options available in the Army and was well received by the youth. The ‘Paramotor Display’ conducted for the youth also motivated them to join security forces and take part in various adventure sports.
Children from the local schools put up an excellent performance of cultural events.
Among other attractions, the delicacies of Khana Khazana Food Plaza, from famous food joints of Srinagar and Baramulla were relished greatly by the populace.
The Children’s Corner with Joy Rides was also a major crowd puller. Girls Football exhibition match emerged as a major hit and also helped in turning the focus of young girls towards sports. Auto Expo and Meena Bazaar were also delight to watch.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen AK Bhatt, AVSM, SM, VSM, GOC, Chinar Corps emphasized upon the rich culture and history of  Kashmir and lauded the hardwork, resilience and temperament of Kashmiris even in the face of adversities.
Mr Beigh, MLA Baramulla, Dr Nasir Ahmad Naqash, DC Imtiyaz Hussain, DIG North Kashmir, SSP and CMO Baramulla also attended the event.
