JAMMU, Jan 24: Romesh Sharma (J&K) pairing with Umesh Aggarwal (Rajasthan) as well as the pair of Romesh Kumar/ Neera Pacricha (Uttar Pradesh) remained runners up in both men doubles 60 plus and mixed doubles categories in the Master’s Ranking Badminton Tournament, organized at Udaipur in Rajasthan from January 17 to 24.
This is for the first time that any player from J&K has clinched any title in any national level tournament.
In men doubles 60 plus category: They defeated pair KJ Roy/ Sébastien from Kerala by 2-1 (21-16, 15-21 & 21-18) and pair of GS Sidhu/Ramesh Sharma from Delhi by 2-0 (21-10 & 21-11) in pre-quarter finals, while in semi-finals, they trounced Atul Joshi and Sudhir Sharma by walk over but lost in the finals by the pair of Yogesh Sanghvi/Vipash Chatterji from Maharashtra by 0-2 (8-21&16-21).
In mix doubles 60 plus, Romesh Sharma (J&K) & Neera Pacricha (UP) defeated Lt. General Ashwani Kumar (Uttarakhand) & Veena Shetty (Karnataka) by 2-0 (21-18 & 23-21) in quarter finals and also defeated pair of Ramesh Sharma/Prathiba Tandon of Delhi by 2-1 (21-12,11-21 & 21-11) but unfortunately lost to the pair of Ram Lakhan (Punjab) & Manjusha Susbarde (Maharashtra) by 0-2 (9-21 & 14-21).
