JAMMU, Sept 16: Hailing from a small village Salal in District Reasi, Ajay Kumar, son of a mason, claimed bronze medal in the International Fencing Fest held at Bangkok, recently.
A large number of countries participated in this event and the players that represented India were from the States of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra, Manipur, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh.
The J&K players were from the lone district of Reasi.
It is pertinent to mention here that Ajay’s talent was spotted during Inter-School Athletic Meet at Zorawar Sports Stadium by fencing trainer, Ajay Kumar, who after seeing his exceptional agility and reflexes honed his skills, which helped him to earn a place in Sports Authority of India (STC) Centre at Patiala.
In just two years at the Cntre, Ajay has the honour of bagging one silver medal in Sub Junior National Championship, one bronze medal at Cadet National Championship, besides a bronze medal at TFF Minime Series (2018) at Bangkok.
