RBI, British International School conduct awareness prog

JAMMU, Mar 15: The Office of Banking Ombudsman RBI in collaboration with the British International School, Jammu conducted an awareness programme on Banking Ombudsman Scheme (BOS) and Ombudsman Scheme for Digital Transactions, here.
The programme was presided over by P. Shimrah, Banking Ombudsman and Ombudsman for Digital Transactions for J&K.
HS Verma, Secretary, OBO/ODT was also present. Chairperson Gita Sharma along with teachers and other staff members attended the programme.
Mr Shimrah deliberated on the importance of financial freedom, in his inaugural speech. He emphasised the importance of knowing where the money comes from and where it goes, spending money wisely which means having a budget, saving money and investing wisely.
He warned the audience against investing in Get Quick Rich Schemes and mentioned that generally wealth is created in stages and small steps. He said that Banking Ombudsman Scheme which is for common man is a highly successful scheme and informed the audience that last year more than 1.64 lakh complaints were redressed within average time of 2 to 3 months. He further explained that the procedure of filing complaints under the BO Scheme is very easy and grievance redressal in a fair and efficient manner is assured.
Mr Verma addressed the participants on the importance of Banking Ombudsman (BO) scheme for resolving Banking complaints.
He said the BO scheme is free, fast, fair and effective mechanism in case the complaint is not resolved by the bank within 30 days of writing to it. He also advised the participants to keep a watch on SMS for all activities in their account and report immediately to bank if any unauthorized transaction takes place.
“In case of complaints regarding use of digital Wallets, Prepaid Payment Instruments, mobile, electronic banking etc. e.g. non-credit to merchant, no refund of failed /unsuccessful/unauthorized transactions may also be lodged with BO Office, RBI Jammu or email may be sent at bojammu@rbi.org.in.,” Mr Verma added.
Gita Sharma while presenting vote of thanks advised all the participants to be vigilant while using online banking, ATM and not to reveal Pin/OTP to anybody.
