Ram Raj, Vijay, Muzaffar claim top three positions in 42 km marathon

Minister of State for Home Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo flagging off ‘Run for Fun’ from Gulshan Ground, Jammu on Sunday.

JAMMU, Apr 21: Ram Raj of Panjtirthi, Vijay Kumar of Akhnoor and Muzaffar Maqbool of Budgam, Srinagar emerged winners in the 42 kilometer Marathon, organised during third edition of “Run for Fun” by Jammu and Kashmir Police, here today.
Besides, Danish Rashid of Ramnagar, Shivinder of Nanak Nagar, Jyoti Saroop of Jhullaka Mohalla, Daler Singh of Ramban and Azad Ahmed of Poonch secured fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth positions respectively in the aforesaid event.
In 21 kilometer boys, Rajesh Kumar of RS Pura, Ranjeet Singh of Bishnah, Makhan Lal Singh of Gole Gujral, Kuldep Sharma of Akhnoor, Jagdev Singh of Jammu University, Kuldeep Singh of Jammu, Sanjeev Kumar of RS Pura, Shakti Singh of Nanak Nagar, Manjeet Singh of Krishna Nagar and Rajesh Kumar of Prem Nagar bagged top ten positions respectively.
In 12 km under 17 boys, Kanit of Gorkha Nagar, Abhishek of Miran Sahib, Neeraj Manhas of CD Hospital, Jammu, Azad and Imran Khan, both from RS Pura, Sidharth Singh of Gulshan Ground, Jammu, Sahil of Miran Sahib, Javed Iqbal of Janipur, Sajad of Sopore, Aditya of Paloura, Sahil Sharma of Bishnah and Hamid Ajaz of Srinagar claimed top twelve positions respectively.
In 12 km under 17 girls, Jaspreet Kour of Sainik Colony, Jyoti Devi of Udhampur, Anju of Srinagar, Mahi Sharma of Elite Public School, Sonia Sharma of DPS, Nosheen of Miran Sahib, Sunali of Army School Domana, Arti Bhagat of Gadigarh, Kajal of Preet Public School, Miran Sahib, Namika of Jammu Cantt, Shiksha Sharma of Chand Nagar and Sapna Sharma of Jammu emerged winners.
In Spoon race under 10 boys, Anesh Parihar, Arjun and Anirush claimed first three top ranks, while in girls category, Muskaan Kotwal, Sonia and Ria claimed first, second and third positions respectively.
In Musical Chair (women), Asha Sharma, Priyanka Koul and Neelam Sharma secured first, second and third positions respectively.
The marathon, which started from Gulshan ground, witnessed around 20,000 participants including students from different educational institutions, sports bodies, police personnel, para-military personnel, children, members of Chambers of Commerce, Jammu Club, Jammu Bar Association, Press Club and senior citizens from different parts of the city and other parts of the Jammu region.
Minister of State for Home, Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo, who flagged off the marathon, said that the aim of the event was to promote healthy living among the masses besides sending out a message of peace and harmony in the society. Role of sports in physical and mental development of the youth is of great importance. It creates discipline and comradeship among the sports lovers which in large helps a nation to prosper in all spheres of life, he said.
On the valedictory function, Director General of Police (DGP), Ashok Prasad, was the chief guest, who awarded cash prizes to the winners and certificates to other participants.
While speaking, DGP said that the aim behind organizing sports events is to develop police public relations and strengthen bonds with the people.
Among others, the function was attended by SP Vaid and SM Sahai, ADGPs, Dr KK Saini, PR Manhas, Yoginder Koul, Muneer Ahmed Khan and Rajesh Kumar, IGPs, T Punchok, Johny William and Shakeel Ahmed Beig, DIGs, Commandants of Armed/IRP battalions, senior retired police officers, citizens and other police officers.
