SRINAGAR, June 19: 14th Police Martyrs Memorial Football Tournament is being organized in Srinagar from June 30 to July 16. Leading Football Clubs within and outside the State are participating in the tournament.
Director General of Police (DGP), K Rajendra Kumar convened a meeting of senior police officers at Armed Police Headquarters here today, to review the arrangements for the tournament. Besides police officers, the meeting was attended by members of J & K Football Association, S A Hamid, Professor Bashir and F A Sofi.
Addressing the meeting, Rajendra said that the main objective of the tournament is to commemorate the sacrifices of police martyrs who laid their precious lives for the safety of the people and safeguarding the integrity of the nation, adding that the event has achieved much popularity among the masses and various sports lovers and sports bodies anxiously wait for this annual event. “Such activities have prevailed an atmosphere of peace and helped in the promotion of sports culture among the people,” he added.
After threadbare discussions, the meeting decided to constitute different committees with different assignments for making the arrangements for the tournament. These committees would be headed by various senior officers and supervised by the DGP. They would ensure all arrangements including registration of teams, preparation of play grounds, boarding and lodging of players, security in and around the venues and other arrangements on opening and closing ceremonies.
Rajendra stressed upon the organizers to ensure coordination among the committees and make the event a success. He also asked them to maintain synergy with State Sports Control Board and other sports bodies to ensure participation of teams at a large scale providing an opportunity to the football lovers to witness high competition among the teams. He disclosed that the tournament would be played at different venues in the Srinagar city and be governed by the rules and regulations laid by All India Police Sports Control Board.
Among others, the meeting was attended by ADsGP, Dr Ramlubhaya, Dr S P Vaid and D R Doley, IsGP, S M Sahai, Arun Kumar Chowdhary, Rauf-ul-Hassan, Muneer Ahmed Khan and A Q Manhas, DIsGP, A S Bali, T Namgiyal, Sheikh Abdul Hamid and Rajinder Gupta, All Commandants of Armed and IRP Battalions and SSP, Srinagar and police officers.
