Punjab blanks HP; Haryana scripts solitary goal win

JAMMU, Feb 7: Haryana and Punjab outplayed their rivals convincingly in the ongoing 70th National Football Championship Santosh Trophy 2015-16 North Zone, being organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Football Association, under the aegis of All India Football Federation at GGM Science College Football ground, here.
Son of the soil, Arun Malhotra, International Footballer of the State and Member J&K State Sports Council, who has been specially invited by JKFA for this tournament was the chief guest in today’s proceedings, who interacted with the players of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh teams. Mr Malhotra was presented a memento as a token of gratitude by former president JKFA, NA Khan.
Earlier, in the first match, Haryana defeated Uttarakhand by a solitary goal and the goal scorer was Vikas, who netted it in 3rd minute of the match.
In another match played today, Punjab thrashed Himachal Pradesh by five goals to nil (5-0). The first goal was scored by Pawan Kumar in 15th minute, while the 2nd and the 3rd goals were netted by Ajay Singh in 29th and 54th minutes respectively. Taranjeet Singh pelted the 4th goal in 79th minute and the 5th goal was scored by Gurvinder Singh in 90th minute.
The matches were officiated by Rajesh Kumar, Romesh Babu, Tejas Nagvenicar, Imran Sheikh, Buhai Soren, Nasirruddin, Paramanad Mandnekar, Dipu Roy and Akash Jackson.
In tomorrow’s fixture Delhi will take on Uttar Pradesh at 10 am, while J&K will lock horns with Chandigarh at 2 pm.
Today’s match among others was witnessed by Zamir Thakur, SA Hameed, RK Kohli, Surinder Singh (Bunty), Dr Nirmolak Singh, Shafi Nari, Fiyaz Ahmad, Fiestas Sotra, S Kuldeep Singh, Suresh Gupta, Mohan Lal, SM Gill, Ramesh Kumar, David Masih, Yousuf Don, Vishwa Mitter, Satpal Singh and Narinder Gupta.
