JAMMU, Feb 14: Poonch lifts VK Kohli trophy for Hockey J&K UT Championship 2020 (Men) organized by Hockey J&K and sponsored by J&K Sports Council at KK Hakhu Hockey Stadium, here.
Jammu Blue runners up was awarded with Sham Lal Sharma trophy. For the first time this championship was played on league basis with the Motto of this championship “Say no to banned drugs”
Sarmad Hafeez, Secretary Youth Services & Sports who presided over the function and was introduced with both teams along with Ramesh Kumar, CEO SMVDSB.
While speaking on the occasion He said that to promote hockey among the youth, Govt is working on to establish 6 Astroturf fields in J&K with special attention on those areas where hockey is being played most including Poonch, Baramulla, Srinagar and Jammu.
He said that floodlights have been installed in KK Hakku Hockey Stadium and very soon works on replacement of 20 years old turf will start.
Ramesh Kumar, CEO Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board while speaking on the occasion tournament like this is the best way to promote hockey in J&K. BesideS distributing the prizes amoung winners and the runners up, Hockey J&K gave Hockey sticks and complete Goal Keeper kit to the participating teams. Shaeed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Foundation gave one dozen hockey balls to each participating teams through journalist Rajiv Sharma.
A hockey stick was presented to youngest player of tournament Gurjit Singh by Sham Lal Hockey Academy Poonch.
Poonch won finals of Hockey J&K UT Championship( Men)- 2020 defeating favourite Jammu Blue by 3 goals to nil. Jammu Matinder Pal Singh scored 2 goals in 32nd & 49th minutes of the match where as Pawan Kumar scored goal in 23rd minute of the match in the 2nd quarter.
