JAMMU, June 9: Oriental Academy Senior Secondary School flagged-off second batch of the school children for Himalayan Trekking Programme in Moungri area of Udhampur district being organized by Tawi Trekkers J&K.
The group was flagged-off by the Administrator of Oriental Academy Vivek Chauhan in the presence of secretary of Tawi Trekkers J&K Shawetica Khajuria and senior vice president Ram Khajuria. Three teachers of the school including the Vice Principal Sharuti Chauhan also accompanied the group. The other teachers are Bhumesh and Gurpreet Kour. Manik Slathia and Aman Arora, both trained mountaineers of Tawi Trekkers J&K also accompanied the group as leaders.
Meanwhile, the adventure activities at the camp headquartered at Youth hostel Moungri are in full swing with budding trekkers in the age group of 10 to 14 years enjoying trekking in the dense, calm and cool pine forest, rappelling and rock climbing in the nearby rocks and learning practical lessons in river crossing in the cold water nallah near the camp. The trekkers are also enjoying their interactions with the local people and learning about the local culture and fauna and flora of the area.
Fresh International standard equipment, approved by UIAA is being used for all the activities being conducted under the direct supervision of Everester Ram Singh, a renowned mountaineer of J&K.
