SRINAGAR, June 13: National Conference (NC) Working President and MLA Beerwah Omar Abdullah presented Merida Reacto 5000 bicycle worth Rs 2.8 lakhs to first State, National and International level cyclist Akbar Khan.
This is the first time that an athlete in the State has been provided with a professional aide of this quality to help him compete in national and international events.
Omar Abdullah hoped that he would continue to bring laurels to the State and inspire more youngsters to take up athletic sports professionally.
He said that Akbar has worked hard for reaching to this level. “Despite hardships he managed his way into International arena and he deserves all possible support and encouragement”, Abdullah added.
Akbar Khan is the first ever cyclist from J&K to get selected for the International event. Apart from that he is second ever national medalist for the State in cycling sports. Khan hails from Narbal, an area of Omar Abdullah’s Beerwah constituency.
Omar Abdullah also donated two tricycles to differently abled persons of his constituency on the occasion.
He was accompanied by Party leader Tanvir Sadiq, Prof Majid Mattu and other functionaries.
