NYK organizes District Sports Tournament

KATHUA, Feb 15: In order to promote Sports Culture and involve more and more Youth with sports activities at village level, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kathua has organized two day duration District Sports Tournament on the theme ‘No Drugs-No Rash Driving’ at Govt. High School, Guhra Mundian, here.
Sohan Lal, SDM Hiranagar inaugurated the tournament as chief guest.
In Kabaddi, 7 teams participated and in the final match, Gujjar Hostel Kathua defeated Hiranagar Youth Club by 40:17 to claim the title.
In Volleyball, 16 teams of Kathua District participated and in the final, Mella team defeated Gurha mundian by 25:19,23:25,25:21 and lifted the trophy.
In 100 mtr Race, Mohd. Shabir from Chack Drab Khan bagged 1st position, while Abishake Sharma from Gurha Mundina and Sadam Hussain from Gujjar Hostel claimed 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
In 400 Mtr Race, Sanjit Singh from Seswan stood 1st and Ranjit Singh from Tanda bagged 2nd spot and Sadam Hussain from Gujjar Hostel claimed 3rd position.
In Long Jump, Mohd Shabir from Chack Drab Khan stood 1st and Sanjiv Singh Tanda won 2nd spot and Abishake Sharma from Gurha Mundian secured 3rd position.
Pawan Parihar, Sr. Superintendent of Police was chief guest on the occasion and in his address he urged the youth to spare their valuable time for sports activities as daily routine, which he said would help them to keep away from the drugs.
He appreciated the endeavor of NYK for promoting sports culture among the rural youth.
Som Datt Zard, District Youth Coordinator, presented welcome address and highlighted the aims and objectives of the sports tournament and endeavor of NYK in creating sports culture in rural areas by providing plate form and free of cost sports materials to Youth Clubs.
