BANGALORE, Apr 22 :
Veteran left-arm seamer Ashish Nehra’s best ever Twenty20 career figures of 4/10 bowled Chennai Super Kings to a 27-run victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore in their IPL match on Wednesday.
Chasing a 182-run victory target, Bangalore managed 154/8 in their 20 overs.
Nehra’s best spell in his entire Twenty20 career made him the owner of the Purple Cap.
Captain Virat Kohli top scored for his team with a 42-ball 51 before he became the third victim of Nehra.
The turning point of the match was the run out of AB de Villiers (14), who was run out after Kohli sent him back midway and the South African was unable to beat the throw from the deep by Dwayne Smith into the hands of MS Dhoni, who collected the throw away from the stumps, but intelligently parried it towards the stumps to catch de Villiers short.
Bangalore put up a listless show as they slipped towards their third defeat of the tournament. None of their batsmen were able to up the scoring rate. Even Kohli struggled to find gaps and unfurl shots.
It was Nehra, who kept the opposition on their toes by bowling with unrelenting control and picked up four wickets. Ishwar Pandey (1/21) backed him up by giving a good account of himself. (Agencies)
