JAMMU, May 3: The final selection trial for BRICS Games and selection trial for the 10th Asian Wushu Championship commenced here today at Indoor Hall Bhagwati Nagar Jammu. Approximately 250 athletes from all affiliated units, departmental organisations like services, Army, Air force, CRPF, SSB, ITBP, BSF and Assam Rifles are taking part in a two days selection trials.
On the first day, pre-quarter and quarter final bouts for both Men and Women categories took place, tomorrow semi final and final bouts will be played and the shortlisted athletes will have to undergo a physical test, which will be carried out at Jammu University.
In Taolu, more than eight events for both men and women took place today, whereas the rest of the events will take place tomorrow morning at Bhagwati Nagar.
Vijay Saraf (General Secretary Wushu Association of India), Suhel Ahmed (CEO) WAI and Kuldeep Handoo (Dronacharya Awardee) flagged off the National Selection trial. Suhel Ahmed in his brief speech congratulated Wushu Association of J&K General Secretary Bhavneet and other office bearers for hosting first ever National selection trial at Jammu. He said hosting national stature events will boost the morale of the Wushu players of J&K-UT.
Nuzhat Gull, Secretary Sports Council in her message appreciated Wushu Association of J&K for hosting the National Selection trial for the prestigious events in Jammu, she thanked Wushu Association of India and Sports Authority of India for bringing J&K in the national map in the sporting events.
