JAMMU, Nov 16: National Inter-Zonal Games in Handball (Men & Women) for the year 2014-15 got underway with the inaugural function of the Tournament at University of Jammu, here today .
K Rajendera, Director General of J&K Police was the chief guest on the occasion.
While speaking on the occasion, DGP congratulated the University of Jammu for organizing an All India Level event. He lavished praise for the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education for smooth conduct of the event.
Earlier, Prof R D Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu in his presidential address said that the sports and games are two sides of the same coin.
Prof Dhian S Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education and organizing secretary presented welcome address. Apart from welcoming the dignitaries, players, coaches, managers, technical officials, he specially welcomed Dr SM Bali, General Secretary South Asian Handball Federation, Joint Secretary, Indian Olympic Association and Chief Executive Officer, Handball Federation of India and his team.
He also thanked DIG (Armed), Jammu, Commandant 10th and 15 Battalions for providing necessary facilities and equipment for conduct of the tournament.
The winners in men’s section included LNIPE Gwalior, Solapur University, Solapur, Panjab University, Chandigarh, R.T.M.N.U Nagpur, Punjabi University Patiala, V.B.S.P.U. Jaunpur and Bharti Vidyapeeth, Pune, while in women’s section, the winners included Lovely Professional University, Phagwara Punjabi University, Patiala, University of Mumbai, L.N.I.P.E Gwalior, Panjab University, Chandigarh, R.T.M.N.U Nagpur v/s V.B.S.P.U Jaunpur – Match won by R.T.M.N.U Nagpur and Delhi University.
The proceedings of the function were conducted by Dr Jaspal Barwal of DDE who also proposed the vote of thanks.
The matches were officiated by Dev Raj, handball coach, Sanjeev Singh, Kapil Sagotra, Govind Ram, Gourav Sharma, Vikas Sharma, Karun Magotra, Kartar Dogra, Lakhwhinder Singh, Kaushal Dikshit, Priya Charak, Ashish, Prabhleen Kour, Pooja Sharma, Jeevenjot and Reva Rajput.
