Mohit helps Jammu to win U-14 football title

JAMMU, Sept 6: Two splendid goals by Mohit Kumar helped Jammu district to drub district Poonch by three goals to nil (3-0) and win the Inter-District Under-14 boys Football title at SOS Herman Gmeiner Higher Secondary School, Gole Gujral, here today.
Apart from Mohit, Manav Choudhary scored a fabulous goal to make it (3-0) in favour of his team.
Earlier, in the semifinals, Jammu blanked Reasi by (5-0), with Manav Choudhary, Ajay Lakha, Rahul Kher, Mohit Kumar and Sahil Kumar scoring one goal each, while in the second semifinals, Poonch trounced Samba by four to two via tie-breaker.
In the other matches, Poonch drubbed Kishtwar by (2-0), Reasi beat Rajouri by (4-3)   and Samba defeated Udhampur by a solitary goal.
The tournament was a part of the Divisional Level Inter-District Tournaments in different age groups for boys and girls in the disciplines of basketball, chess, jump rope and football.
Over 250 players from 7 districts of the Jammu division are participating in the tournament, which is being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports under the chairmanship of Ashok Kumar, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports, while Tirath Ram, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Jammu is the organising secretary.
Meanwhile, in chess Under-19 boys, Vikas Sharma of Jammu trounced Vidur Sharma of Reasi, while Sidharth of Jammu got better of Samarjeet of Reasi to win titles.
In basketball Under-19 boys, Udhampur trounced Samba in the semifinal by 28-16, with Babeen Khajuria scoring 15 baskets, while in another contest, Jammu thrashed Kathua by a huge margin of 45 baskets (63-18). Abhimanyu and Gulbir were the star performers with 22 and 10 baskets respectively.
In basketball Under-19 girls, Jammu lifted the title by defeating Kishtwar by (23-01). Preet Shagun was the star performer with 12 baskets.
Meanwhile, in jump rope Under-19 boys and girls masters event, endurance event, single double under event and relay double under events were also held today.
