JAMMU, Sept 29: Classical Instrumental (Solo) Non-Percussion and Classical Instrumental (Solo) Percussion, competitions were conducted by the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu under the aegis of the ongoing “Display Your Talent” 2012-13 at Brig Rajinder Singh Auditorium, Jammu University, here.
In Classical Instrumental (Solo) Non-Percussion, Mithlesh Wanchoo from Acharya Sri Chandra College of Medical Sciences, Jammu stole the show by presenting Raga Bhairav on Violin and clinched the First Prize. Sheetal from Govt Women College, Parade was adjudged second. She presented Raga “Miyan Malhar” on Sitar while Rajani Devi from Govt Women College, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, presented Raga “Yaman” on Sitar and bagged the third Prize.
The “Aalap” “Jod”, “Jhalla”, “Razakhani” and Maseetkhani”, “Gats” were presented by the young participants.
In Classical Instrumental (Solo) Percussion Competition, Ashish Attri from Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Jammu was the sole participant, hence was recommended for the Special prize.
Ashish presented “Teen Taal” on Tabla including “Tode”, “Tukre” ,”Tihayeean”, “Parans” , “Chakradaar Parans” , “Laggies” and “Relaas” etc.
Prof JS Tara, Director, Poonch Campus, was the Chief Guest on this occasion and distributed the prizes amongst the winners in presence of Prof N K Tripathi, Dean Students Welfare. Speaking on this occasion Prof. Tara, appreciated the performance of the participants. He further said that Indian Classical Music is an integral part of our rich Cultural Heritage. We should make every effort to preserve it.
Kulbhushan Sharma, Dr Usha Bagati and Ashwani Sharma, were the experts for the Classical Instrumental (Solo) Non-Percussion whereas Balbir Singh and Neeraj Verma, were adjudicators in Classical Instrumental (Solo) Percussion Competition.
Dr Raj Kumar, Department of Law, University of Jammu, was the Teacher Incharge for these events and made the participants conversant with the Rules and Regulations.
The programme was compeered by Harmeet Kour, Joint Secretary, Students Cultural Council.
Among others, Prof Jasbir Singh, Chairman, Campus Cultural Committee, Nidhi Kaila Secretary, Students Cultural Council and Anshu Bala, Joint Secretary, SCC, were present.
The event was managed by Gurpal Singh, Kulbushan Thakur, BS Slathia, SS Bhalla, RP Singh, Ram Pal, Yash Pal and Satish Kumar.
