MENDHAR, Apr 22: To celebrate Mendhar Shahidi Diwas, which is celebrated every year in April, a Kabaddi Tournament was organized by the Army under the aegis of Ace of Spades Division, here.
The 4-day Tournament is being organized at OP Hill Stadium, here, with an aim to reach out to the youth of Mendhar and to commemorate the martyrdom of the brave citizens of Mendhar Tehsil, who laid down their lives supporting the Army during the 1965 Indo-Pak War.
The tournament got underway in presence of Army officials, SDPO Mendhar, civil dignitaries, school children and a large number of local youths.
The event received an overwhelming response from the youth of Mendhar and adjoining areas, with a total of 8 teams comprising 80 players participating in the event.
The tournament will be played on knockout basis, with its final to be played on April 25, 2017, coinciding with a Know Your Army Mela at OP Hill Stadium.
Earlier, in the inaugural match, Amir Club, Dakhi beat Friends Club, Harni by 32 points.
The players of both teams showed extraordinary skills in a well fought game, however, Amir Club Dakhi held their nerves and emerged winners.
