LSRC wins 4th LG Ice Hockey Cup; LG Ladakh attends final

KARGIL, Jan 20: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd.), attended the final match of the 4th LG Ice Hockey Cup Championship 2024-25 at the Ice Hockey Rink, Khree Sultan Choo Sports Stadium, Biamathang, here today as the chief guest. The championship, which ran from January 16 to 20, saw enthusiastic participation from both boys’ and girls’ teams from Leh and Kargil.
The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffar Akhoon; Executive Councillors, Kacho Mohd Feroz and Er. Punchok Tashi; Administrative Secretaries Shashanka Ala (Rural Development, PR/IT/Disaster Management) and Vikram Singh Malik, Secretary Youth Services and Sports, Ladakh; and Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, along with other district and UT officials.
LG commended the spectators for their passionate support and highlighted that this event will open doors for future opportunities for local players. He also announced that the Ladakh ice hockey team would accompany the Indian national team during international tournaments, with selection based purely on merit.
In addition, the Lieutenant Governor promised to organize a polo match in Kargil next year, with the President of India as the guest of honour, and teams from various States participating. He also directed the Chairman/CEC, Kargil, to improve the seating arrangements at the Ice Hockey Rink for a more comfortable experience for spectators. The final match saw LSRC emerge victorious with a 2-1 win over ITBP.
