Lal Singh inaugurates All India T20 Cricket Tournament

*GNCC outplays Doda Combined Club in opening tie

JAMMU, Nov 3: Minister for Health and Medical Education, ARI and Trainings, Choudhary Lal Singh said that Government is taking keen interest in up-gradation of sports infrastructure and promotion of sports activities across the State.
The Minister was addressing the inaugural ceremony of All India T-20 Cricket Championship-2015 organized by Cricket Club Bhalessa at M A Stadium, here today.
The Minster was accompanied by Joint Secretary J&K State Sports Council, Jammu and president Indian Style Wrestling Association of India, Shiv Kumar Sharma and Divisional Sports Officer, Jammu, Rajan Sharma, besides Director Health Services, Dr Baljeet Singh Pathania, Controller Drugs and Food Organisation,  Nazir Wani, general secretary  Kulbir Singh Manhas and patron of Bhallessa Youth Cricket Club.
The Minister said that present dispensation has taken various initiatives to raise requisite infrastructure for promotion of sports activities in the State. He stressed that youth in the State has huge talent and potential which will be tapped by providing an enabling environment and opportunities through such events. He further said that State’s sports infrastructure suffered heavy damage due to floods, but Government is making concerted efforts to revive the same.
Choudhary Lal Singh complimented the organizers for organizing such tournaments  to  groom the talent of young sportspersons so that they can participate at national and international levels. He hoped that the budding sportspersons who are getting training at initial stage would become more competitive and bring laurels to the State.
Meanwhile, winning the toss and batting first, Guru Nanak Cricket Club scored a fighting total of 142 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 6 wickets in the process. Rakesh was top scorer  with 51 runs, while Suresh and Gulshan contributed 20 and 13 runs to the total respectively. For Doda Combined Cricket Club, Saleem took 2 wickets, while Rayeez claimed one.
In reply, Doda Combined CC scored 135 runs in the allotted overs by losing 8 wickets, thus lost the match by a narrow margin of 7 runs. Rayeez top scored with 34 runs, while Toheed and Amir contributed 27 and 20 runs respectively. For GNCC, Suresh and Sachin scalped 2 wickets each, while Bablu claimed one wicket.
The match was officiated by Saleem-ur-Rehman and Sadiq Hussain Malik as umpires, while Virender Singh was the scorer. Vikas Bali was the third umpire, while Sham Singh Langeh and Sohan Bharti were the commentators.
