Laborers facing starvation, lady dies for want of hospitalization

JAMMU, Mar 29: Expressing concern over plight of migrant laborers who face shortage of food grains due to the lockdown, various social organizations have urged the Government to provide immediate relief and ration to them as they are at the verge of starvation.
In a statement issued here, today B L Saraf retired Session Judge has turned the attention of authorities towards the plight of about 100 migrant laborers putting up at Lower Muthi , Saraswati Vihar. He said these people have nothing to eat and they are at the verge of starvation. He said though local people arranged for their meals by contributing among themselves but in the prolonging lockdown it will be impossible to feed them.
B L Saraf regretted that no one from administration bothered to provide any relief to them and urged the administration to take effective steps in this regard.
Same is the problem faced by the laborers putting up at Channi Himamt. Advocate, V K Grover president, Channi Himmat Residents Association said that about 2000 laborers putting up in the area are also facing starvation as Government has failed to provide ration to them after the lockdown. He said though Association is making best efforts at its level to help these hapless people but the administration should also share its responsibility and provide relief to tem so that they can keep their body and soul together.
The residents of Netar Kotian, Barnai termed the Government claims of calling Ambulance totally hollow by dialing some phone numbers. They said that a lady who suffered a heart attack in the morning died on way to Hospital as there was no response to their phone calls made to various numbers in the event of emergency. They alleged even the Damana Police Station did not respond and later the locals approached the Corporator, Suraj Parkash Padha who gave his personnel vehicle for shifting the lady to Hospital but she died in the way.
