JAMMU, Mar 19: KV Masters led by Samendar Rathore defeated Tawi Veterans led by Kulbir Singh with 48 runs in a cricket match which was organized under the guidance of KV2 (Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2) Principal Bhushan Kumar at KV2 School Ground, here today.
Tawi Veterans won the toss and put KV Masters to bat. The decision proved right as opener Samendar Rathore fell cheaply against the quality swing bowling of Ashok Kumar who took 3 wickets and Sonu Malik claimed 1 wicket.
A 70 run partnership between Sachin Kumar (73 runs) and Amitpal (18 runs) got KV Masters back in the game. The spin duo of Hemant (2 wickets) and Sham Bakshi controlled the run rate in the middle overs. A late flourish by Pawan Parihar (21 runs) and Manjeet (20 runs) helped them to score 180 by losing 6 wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Nipun (15 runs) and Naresh Kumar (12 runs) were the other contributors.
In reply, Tawi Veterans started well with Pankaj (25 runs), but never looked threatening against the seam bowling of Manjeet, Nipun and Sunny Kotwal (1 wicket each). Some resistance was put up with a 55 runs partnership between Vicky (10 runs) and Ashok Kumar (15 runs) but spinner Sachin Kumar (4 wickets) took wickets for Tawi veterans on regular intervals.
Sonu Malik (15 runs), Kaushal and Piyush (10 runs each) put in an effort to change the tide but in vain and finally the team was all out for 132 runs in the 17th over. Rajat Sharma (2 wickets) and Sam (1 wicket) were the other wicket takers for KV Masters.
Sachin Kumar was declared player of the match for his all round performance.
