ADGP Jammu , ACB Director, PCJ chief give trophies

JAMMU, May 11: KT Lions Cricket Club today won Ashok Sodhi Memorial Cricket Tournament organized by the Press Club of Jammu.
KT Lions defeated Jaguar Cricket Club in a thrilling final which went to Super Over tonight at MA Stadium here.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Jammu Zone, Anand Jain and Director Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Shakti Pathak gave away trophies to winners and runners-up in the presence of SSP Jammu Dr Vinod Kumar, Sports Council Member Ranjeet Kalra, Press Club of Jammu president Sanjeev Pargal and Ashok Sodhi’s daughter Inna and her family.
The tournament was organized in the memory of Ashok Sodhi, Chief Photographer Daily Excelsior who attained martyrdom while covering an encounter between security forces and terrorists in Samba district on May 11, 2008.
Speaking on the occasion, ADGP Anand Jain said the sports activities are necessary to encourage youth. He paid rich tribute to Ashok Sodhi.
Jain expressed confidence that such tournaments will continue to be organized to ensure involvement of youth in healthy activities.
ACB Director Shakti Pathak also paid tribute to Ashok Sodhi and recalled his contribution to journalism.
In his address, PCJ chief Sanjeev Pargal recalled his association with Ashok Sodhi. He said next year, the tournament will be expanded and the Club will ensure that participation of teams increase from eight to 16.
PCJ Management Committee Member and Organizer of the tournament Dinesh Mahajan also addressed the gathering. Prominent businessmen Raj Kumar Gupta and Deepak Gupta, president Ware House Federation, who partnered in the tournament, were also present.
Earlier, after winning the toss, KT Lions Cricket Club decided to bat first and set the target of 141 runs on the loss of 8 wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Shubam Sharma was the highest scorer who scored 38 runs and Atul 26 runs for the team. Rabpreet Singh of Jaguars Cricket Club clinched five wickets.
While chasing the reasonable target, KT Lions Cricket Club levelled the score of 141 runs by the loss of 6 wickets in stipulated 20 overs and match ended in a tie. Robin Singh scored 45 runs and Gurmeet 49 for the team while Kewal Kotwal took three wickets.
The match entered into the super over where Jaguars Cricket Club (JCC) set the target of only 8 runs which KT Lions Cricket Club (KTLCC) chased down in just 4 balls and won the tournament.
Talib was declared as man of the series for his brilliant performance while Kewal Kotwal was declared as man of the match. Robin Singh was declared best batsman, Tabbu best bowler and Dhoni was declared best fielder of the tournament.
