Kerala to face Manipur; Haryana to take on Assam in semis

JAMMU, Dec 14: Semifinals position has been cleared in the ongoing 63rd National School Games Under-17 Football Tournament, being organized by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports at various venues, here.
The teams which sealed berth in the last four stage included Kerala, Assam, Manipur and Haryana.
Now, in the semifinals, Kerala will lock horns with Manipur at MA Stadium, while Haryana will face Assam at Sainik School Nagrota.
Director Youth Services and Sports, Sheikh Fayaz Ahmed was the chief guest in the quarterfinal match between Kerala and Punjab held at MA Stadium. He interacted with the players and asked them about the arrangements made by the organizers. The young footballers from various States lavished praise on the organizers for their comfortable boarding, lodging and transportation arrangements.
The Director advised the young players to play with sporting spirit in order to preserve sanctity of games and sports.
He asked them to enjoy the beauty of Jammu City and adjoining areas and exchange culture with their counterparts in other States.
In the quarterfinals played in the evening session today, Kerala defeated Punjab by two goals to one (2-1) at MA Stadium, while in another quarterfinal played at BSF Stadium, Paloura Haryana got the better of Goa via tie-breaker by four goals to three (4-3).
Assam defeated Jharkhand by a solitary goal (1-0) at Jammu University ground in yet another quarterfinal match, while in the fourth quarterfinal played at Sainik School ground, Nagrota, Manipur prevailed over Uttrakhand by three goals to nil (3-0).
Earlier, in pre-quarterfinal matches played at various venues, Kerala beat Gujarat by (1-0) at MA Stadium, Punjab defeated Tripura by (3-0) at Sainik School ground Nagrota, Uttarakhand got the better of IBSO (3-0) at Jammu University ground, Manipur prevailed over West Bengal by (2-0) BSF ground Paloura, Haryana trounced IPSC via tie-breaker by (4-3)at BSF Paloura, Goa drubbed Odisha by (2-0) at Jammu University ground, Assam outclassed Chandigarh by (3-0) at Sainik School ground Nagrota and Jharkhand outplayed Delhi by a solitary goal (1-0) at MA Stadium.
The Tournament is being held under the overall supervision of Director Youth Services and Sports, Sheikh Fayaz Ahmed, while various committees are functioning under the conveners for smooth and successful conduct of the Tournament.
The final of the Championship will be held tomorrow at BSF Stadium Paloura, which will be followed by closing ceremony at 3 pm, wherein Minister for IT, TE and Sports, Moulvi Imran Raza Ansari will be the chief guest and Minister of State for Transport and Sports, Sunil Kumar Sharma will be the guest of honour.
