DG Sports presents certificates, medals

JAMMU, Feb 16: Ten students of KC Public School received their bronze and silver awards today morning under the International Award for the Young People (IAYP) Programme in a special ceremony organized at the multi-purpose hall of KC Sports Club, here.
Dr Saleem-ur-Rahman, Director General, Youth Services & Sports was the chief guest on the occasion, who presented certificates and medals to the award winners.
IAYP, originally known as the Duke of Edinburgh Award programme in the UK, is a popular youth empowerment programme all over the world under which young people in the age group of 14 to 25 aspire for bronze, silver and gold awards by setting goals for themselves in four major areas, namely, Service, Adventure, Skill and Physical Recreation and achieve their objectives within a period of 6 months to 2 years.
The students from KCPS who earned the silver award for the first time this year were Reha Krishan, Sambhavi Gupta, Anav Jain, Vinayak Trakroo, Prajwal Sharma and Mitali Gupta. The Bronze award winners were Akshat Bhagotra, Saksham Gupta, Shivam Gupta and Avneesh Pandoh. Anika Gandotra, Akshita Puri, Swayam Gupta, Aditya Chib, Srishti Mahajan and Divam Dubey joined the IAYP aspirants in the adventure journey as Round Square school students and were presented certificates of achievement.
The ceremony began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the chief guest. It was followed by a devotional dance dedicated to Lord Ganesha.
After the distribution of awards, the chief guest addressed the students and underlined the significance of values-based education.
He said that a student needs to have not only eyes but also vision. He pointed out the significance of imbibing universal values and making education a process of character building.
He also congratulated the award winners on their achievement.
The ceremony concluded with vote of thanks presented by the School Principal Amarendra Kumar Mishra.
