Kavinder, Rajendra to inaugurate prestigious PPCPL today

*Formidable Kashmir Steel Warriors to face strong Chenab Gas Royals

JAMMU, Apr 17: Speaker Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta and Director General of Police, K Rajendra Kumar will be inaugurating the prestigious and first of its kind cricket tournament ‘PPCPL’ at GGM Science College Hostel Ground, here tomorrow.
According to Shakeel Beig, DIG Jammu and General Secretary of the League, the Speaker and the DGP will declare the tournament open in a colourful function at 12:30 pm.
The League, which carries cash award worth Rs 20 lakh, will be inaugurated in a grand opening ceremony, which will witness the participation of a team of top budding singers of Jammu led by Sonali Dogra, who have been the prize winners of JKP’s mega singing annual feature ‘Choona Hai Aasmaan’ more than once.
“Ten teams are participating in the tournament, which have been divided into two groups of five teams each. After playing on the basis of ‘all play all pattern’ in their respective pools, the team standing at the bottom of each pool will be eliminated and the rest of the teams will qualify for the quarterfinals,” said Rajesh Gill, organizing secretary of the tournament.
“The League can serve as a launching pad for many unsung and unnoticed players, because it provides them quality cricket with quality facilities. The cricketers should apply up to the maximum level and use the opportunity to catch eyes of the experts watching there,” said Ashinder Koul and Shahid Parvez, chief and senior selector of JKCA.
Meanwhile, the first match is the contest between almost equally balanced teams as both the teams possess a galaxy of current and former Ranji Trophy players.
It will altogether be the matter of nerves and the team which holds its nerves better in the crunch situation will be the winner.
While on the one hand, Kashmir Steel Warriors, will be banking on Paras Sharma, Pranav Gupta, Usmaan Pandit and all-rounders Abid Nabi and Zahoor Sofi in batting, Chenab Gas Royals will depend on Bandeep Singh, Vimarsh Kaw, Sahil Bhalwal, besides all-rounder Vishwajeet Singh in batting.
In the bowling department, Kashmir Steel Warriors will heavily rely on left-arm spinner Waseem Raza and speedster Rohit Sharma, apart from all-rounders, while in bowling department, Chenab Gas Royals will bank on speedsters Rahil Singh and Vishwajeet Singh and left-arm spinners Jatinder Singh or Raman Dutta. It will simply be the battle of equals.
