JAMMU, Dec 22: District Kathua team clinched the final of Election Commission of India National Quiz at State level, which was held here today at Teachers Bhawan, Gandhi Nagar Jammu.
Among the eight teams, district Kathua bagged the first position with 180 marks. The students who won laurels for their district, were Sonali of class 12th of HSS Pallan and Atul of class 11th. The winning team was closely followed by District Rajouri with 150 marks and Jammu 140 marks.
In the final, there were eight teams namely Jammu, Kathua, Bandipora, Poonch, Ganderbal, Rajouri, Udhampur and Anantnag.
The final competition comprised of six rounds – the first four rounds were based on topics like Indian Constitution /ECI, Indian Polity, Current Affairs and Jammu & Kashmir State. The fifth round was a rapid fire round in which students were asked to respond to as many as possible questions in one minute and the final round was the buzzer round where 15 questions were posed to all the teams and the teams who pressed the buzzer first were given the chance to respond.
The Semi-finals at the State level were conducted yesterday, in which twenty one teams from across the State participated . The teams were divided into four groups and out of each group the top two teams had qualified for the finals.
The quizzing was witnessed by almost 1000 students over 2 days, drawn from different schools of Jammu in the Teacher Bhawan Auditorium, which was especially equipped with electronic screens and live scoring arrangements, giving instantaneous results.
All the district winning teams were felicitated with handsome prizes and participation certificates by the Chief Electoral Officer J&K, Shalin Kabra. The CEO J&K also announced formation of Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELCs) in the schools and colleges to continue the ECI’s efforts to make the young and future voters enthusiastically participate in elections, which are a celebration of our democracy.
The students were encouraged by the Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Secretary School Education Department J&K, DC Jammu (District Election Officer Jammu), Joint CEO J&K, Chief Education Officer and the officers of Education Department.
