Karnataka beats J&K by 43 runs in Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy

JAMMU, Jan 10: Wicketkeeper K L Shrijith’s unbeaten knock of 48 runs and M Prasidh’s three important wickets by conceding 34 runs with three maiden overs helped Karnataka to defeat Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) with 43 runs in the first match of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 played at Alur Cricket Stadium, Bengaluru today.
Batting first, Karnataka scored 150 runs by losing only five wickets in 20 overs match. Devdutta Padikkal made 18 runs while skipper Karun Nair scored 27 runs off 21, Aniruddha 29 off 26 balls and KL Shrijith unbeaten 48 runs helped Karnataka to raise a tough target for J&K.
All rounder and skipper of J&K, Parvez Rasool along with Aquib Nabi showed some resistance with ball against Karnataka by clinching two wickets each and one wicket was bagged by Abid Mushtaq.
In reply, the J&K players failed to chase the set target and bundled out at 107 runs in 18.4 overs. However, middle order batsmen Abdul Samad and Shubham Singh Pundir showed some guts by scoring 30 runs off 27 and 20 runs off 24 balls but failed to chase the tough target and lost the first match with big margin of 47 runs.
Umar Nazir failed to open his account while Ahmad Omar Banday scored 18 runs and Shubham Khajuria, Qamran Iqbal and Parvez Rasool contributed 12, 12 and 5 runs respectively to the total for J&K.
M Prasidh was the wrecker-in-chief who took three wickets by conceding 34 runs, whereas Mithun A Suchith J and Gowtham K bagged two wickets each by conceding 24, 17 and 13 runs respectively and Ronit More clinched one wicket, giving 18 runs for Karnataka.
