JAMMU, Sept 17: Inaugural function of the ‘Display Your Talent’ 2014, an extravaganza of the Fine Arts, Literary, Music, Dance and Theatre events, being organized by the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu got underway in an impressive function at Brig Rajinder Singh Auditorium, here today.
Prof M P Singh Ishar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu was the chief guest on this occasion, who inaugurated the programme with lighting of traditional lamp in presence of Prof Pankaj K Srivastava, Dean Students Welfare, Prof Parmeshwari Sharma, Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee and Prof Sameer Gupta, Co-Chairman, Campus Cultural Committee.
In his address, Vice Chancellor appreciated the role of Department of Students Welfare in organizing Cultural and Literary activities in the University. He lauded the importance of social and cultural activities in preparing students for real life and strengthening their personal skills. He asked the students to prepare themselves for the forthcoming North Zone University Fest to be organized by this university.
While welcoming the guests and participants, Prof Pankaj K Srivastava, Dean Students Welfare said that such events improve the organization, presentation and leadership skills of the students.
Earlier, two minutes silence was observed in the memory Prof M R Puri, former Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu and founder of ‘Display your Talent’ event and the victims of flood in J&K State were also remembered on the occasion.
Prof Parmeshwari Sharma, Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee, highlighted the “Display Your Talent” from its start and asked the students for more participation.
Prof Sameer Gupta, Co-Chairman, Campus Cultural Committee, presented the vote of thanks.
Rangoli, Debate and Flower Arrangement, events were organized by the Department of Students Welfare today.
In Rangoli, Aarti Slathia from Department of Psychology, University of Jammu clinched the first prize, while as Khushbu Sharma from Institute of Music and Fine Arts, Jammu and Shikha Singh from J K College of Education, Kunjwani, Jammu, bagged the second and third prize respectively.
The Certificates of Merit were awarded to Tejaswani Khajuria from Govt College for Women, Parade, Jammu, Tarun Sharma from Department of Economics, University of Jammu and Jyoti Devi from Govt College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
Dr Shubhra Kapoor, Sandhra Malhotra and Mukul Magotra were the adjudicators for the Rangoli event.
In Debate Competition, Sahil Mehta from Department of Economics, University of Jammu bagged the first prize, where as Shriya Sharma from MBS College of Engineering & Technology and Druvika Pandita from Govt College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu, were adjudged as second and third respectively.
Dr Surinder Sharma Memorial Trophy in Debating Competition was clinched by the team from the Govt College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu.
Dr Anupama Vohra and P N Trisal were the adjudicators of the event.
In Flower Arrangement Competition, Tejaswani Khajuria from Govt. College for Women, Parade, Jammu, bagged the first prize where as Nikhil Verma from The Law School, University of Jammu and Sonika Chalotra from Institute of Music and Fine Arts, Jammu, adjudged as second and third respectively.
The Certificates of Merit were awarded to Mehak from Govt MAM College, Jammu, Anirudh Gupta from Govt SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu and Tarun Sharma from Department of Economics, University of Jammu.
Dr Raj Kumar, K K Sharma and Ashwani Sharma were experts for the Flower Arrangement Event.
Dr Smridhi Arora, Dr Garima Gupta and Dr Sanjay Sharma, were the Teachers in-charge for the above mentioned events respectively and apprised the participants about the rules and regulations about their respective event. The debating Competition was compeered by Jatinder Singh whereas Rakesh Kumar acted as time keeper.
Among others present were Prof Posh Charak, Dean, Research Studies, Prof M K Dhar, Registrar, Prof Jasbir Singh, Provost Hostel (Boys), Prof Neeru Sharma, Prof Parikshat Singh Manhas, Associate Dean (SW), Prof Hardeep Chahal, Dr Ab Rashid Manhas, Assistant Dean (SW), Jai Kumar Sharma, Special Secretary to the Vice Chancellor, Dr Yudhbir Singh, Assistant Dean (SW), Ifra Kak, Cultural Officer and Sumeet Sharma, Drama Instructor.
Aenny Matoo, Bharti Sharma and Taniya Sohal, joint secretaries, Students Cultural Council were also present on the occasion.
