JU thrashes Shimla University; storms into semis

JAMMU, Dec 5: Outplaying Shimla University, Himachal Pradesh by a big margin of 75 runs in an easy contest, Jammu University (JU) have qualified for the last four stage in the ongoing All India Vice Chancellors Cup T20 Cricket Tournament at Mumbai, today.
Now, in the semifinal, Jammu University will face Patiala at the same venue tomorrow.
Earlier, batting first, Jammu University rode on a superb batting display by Ameet Targotra and Niranjan to score a decent total of 155 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Ameet top scored with 49 runs, while Niranjan contributed 35 runs. Skipper Daud Iqbal Baba and Noor also chipped in with 21 and 15 runs respectively. For Shimla University Lalit, Dharam and Chateshwar claimed 3, 2 and one wicket respectively.
In reply, Shimla University bundled out for a meagre total of 80 runs in 16.3 overs, thus lost the match by 75 runs. Lalit was the top scorer with 43 runs, while Rajesh contributed 19 runs to the total. For Jammu University, Sandep was the pick of the bowlers, who took 3 important wickets by conceding 20 runs in his 4 overs, while Rajesh bagged 2 wickets by giving away 11 runs. Pawan, Daud and Rajkumar Bakshi claimed one wicket each.
Ameet Targotra was declared man of the match for his good batting display.
Prof Dhian Singh Bhau, Director Sports and Physical Education and Sunil Sahi lauded the efforts of the team for this success.
