JAMMU, May 26: Jammu University team defeated Information Department by a narrow margin of 7 runs in a friendly Cricket match at Varsity ground, here today.
Earlier, JU skipper Rajesh Salhotra won the toss and elected to bat first,
Batting first, JU scored a modest total of 128 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Naranjan Singh top scored with 36 runs, while Shammi Bhagat contributed 32 runs to the total. Vishal Sudan and Aman Sambyal also chipped in with 22 and 15 runs respectively. For Information Department, Bablu and Janu shared one wicket each.
In reply, Information Department managed to score 121 runs in the allotted 20 overs, thus lost the match in an exciting contest by 7 runs. Almost all the JU bowlers hit right area and bowled with nagging line and teasing length to restrict rival team to 121 runs. Rajesh, Pawan, Niranjan, Avtar and Bakshi were among the bowlers who did the job for JU. It was 12th consecutive victory for JU.
