JU to host 30th Inter-University North Zone Youth Festival

JAMMU, Aug 13: The University of Jammu will host the 30th Inter-University North-Zone Youth Festival in collaboration with the Association of Indian Universities, which has been organizing the event annually since 1985 with financial support of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports under the Scheme for Promotion of National Integration.
“It is a matter of pride for the State as well as the varsity to organize the national-level event. We will be the first university of the State to organize this event twice,” said JU Vice-Chancellor Prof M P S Ishar while addressing a press conference on the campus, here today.
He said that the event will provide opportunity to the budding talents to exhibit their ability in the field of music, dance, theatre activities, literary events and fine arts.
The Inter-University Zonal Youth Festivals are proposed to be held for a period of five days during November 2014. The strength of participating university contingent will be of forty (40), including team accompanists and managers. Around 1800 participants are expected to participate in this fest.
More than 45 Universities of North India (J&K, HP, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, UP, Uttarakhand) are expected to take part in the North Zone Youth Festival. 25 competitive events of Dance, Music, Literary, Theatre and Fine Arts will be organized in the different auditoriums of the main campus.
Competitions in literary category include elocution, debate and quiz. Cultural events include Classical Vocational solo, Classical Instrumental Solo (Percussion-Tal Vadya, Non-Percussion- Swar Vadya), Light Vocal (Indian), Western Vocal Solo, Group song (Indian), Group Song (Western), Folk Orchestra, Folk/Tribal Dance, Classical Dance (Indian) One Act Play, Mime, Mimicry, Skit, Rangoli, On the Spot Painting, Collage, Poster Making,  Clay Modelling, Cartooning, Spot photography and Installation.
Judges from different parts of country, recognized by AIU will be called to judge the different events.
