JAMMU, Nov 17: After its brilliant performances from last consecutive four seasons, the Employees Cricket Team of Jammu University began its campaign in the fifth season in style, thrashing Pune University by a big margin of 76 runs in the first match of the All India Vice Chancellors T20 Cricket Cup, being organized by Gorakhpur University at Gorakhpur.
According to the reports reaching here, winning the toss and batting first, Jammu University Employees Cricket Team scored a decent total of 161 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Vishal Sudan was the top scorer with 41 runs, while Raj Kumar Bakshi contributed 22 runs to the total. Akash Bhola and Daud Iqbal chipped in with 17 and 14 runs respectively. All the JU batsmen struck the ball with fluid grace and utter brilliance. For Pune University, Nitin, Vinod and Santosh claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Pune University bundled out for a paltry total of 85 runs. Though, all the Jammu University bowlers hit good areas and bowled with nagging line and teasing length, yet Rajesh Kumar was the pick of the bowlers, scalping 3 important wickets, while Pawan Singh and Raj Kumar took 2 wickets each. For his magnificent all-round display, Raj Kumar Bakshi was adjudged man of the match.
Jammu University team will play will play its second match against Chandigarh University on November 20, 2015.
The team is being accompanied by Sunil Sahi as manager, who lauded the efforts of the team members for scripting a convincing win by playing as a cohesive unit.
