JAMMU, Dec 21: Jammu University cagers defeated Himachal Pradesh University Shimla in their opening encounter in the ongoing North Zone Inter-University Basketball Championship that started at Swami Vivekananda Group of Institutes Banur under the aegis of Punjab Technical University, Jullandhar.
Jammu University led 23-6 in the first quarter only to see a thrust by the opponents in the second quarter who reduced the lead to six points to go into the breather at 36-45. However, after playing safe in the third quarter, JU cagers got back to their offensive tactics and increased the margin of their lead to 18 points, finishing the game at 81-63.
For the winners, Shubham Sharma and Amanjot Singh excelled, contributed 27 and 13 points respectively, while Rohan Kundal and Jaskirat contributed 12 and 11 points respectively. JU will meet Allahabad University Allahabad in their second round match on Monday.
