JU defeats Khalsa Club in inaugural match

JAMMU, Feb 1: Range Police Jammu in collaboration with Christian Sports Organization organized 3rd Christmas Soccer Championship for college students and J&K footballers at Science College Football Ground, here.
Shakeel A Beig, DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range, was the chief guest at the inaugural function of the tournament. Fr Kuriakose, chairman, Christian Sports Organization and DS Bhau, Director, Physical Education, University of Jammu (JU), were the guests of honour while Parmod Kumar, Manager, Federal Bank, was the special guest.
While speaking on the occasion, DIG Jammu highlighted the importance of the sports activities especially for youth and said that motive behind organizing this Soccer Championship is our moto “Be healthy and say no to drugs”. He complemented the players for taking part in the tournament and wished them success in the tournament.
A total of 12 teams from different colleges shall participate in the tournament. All the matches of the tournament shall be conducted under the supervision of DIG Jammu and Fr Kuriakose. The tournament is being sponsored by Federal Bank, South Indian Bank, Canara Bank and J&K Police.
The organizing committee members of the tournament are Sanjeev Khajuria, SSP, Principal PTS Kathua, Parshotam Sharma, DDP, RPHQ Jammu, Prof DS Bhau, Director, University of Jammu, Nicodemus and Markas Gill, advisors, CSO, Aijaz Malik, Physical Direcor, Commerce College, Rajesh Gill and others.
The inaugural match was played between University of Jammu (JU) and Khalsa Club which was won by former by 5 goals. Manoj of JU scored first goal in 4th minute. The 2nd goal was netted by Anchal in 17th minute. Third, 4th, 5th and 6th goals of the match were scored by Raza, Dharma, Gagan and Anchal in 29th, 47th, 50th and 55th minutes, respectively.
In reply, Khalsa Club could secure only one goal, which was netted by Vinay.
Harnit Singh, Ranjay Kumar, Javed Ahmed and Feroz Ahmed were match referees. The proceedings of the match were conducted by RP Singh and Victor Sotra.
