JTN bats for Ladakh as Ice Hockey Capital of India

LEH, Jan 22: President of Ice Hockey Federation of India (IHFI) and former MP from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal (JTN) met Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports at New Delhi.
During meeting JTN submitted a comprehensive memorandum underscoring Ladakh’s unmatched potential as premier destination for Winter Sports, especially Ice Hockey.
“Ladakh, with its natural ice rinks and passionate youth, is poised to lead India’s Winter Sports revolution. It’s time we make Ladakh the capital of Indian Ice Hockey,” said Ex MP JTN.
The proposals from IHFI included infrastructure development by establishing modern indoor Ice Hockey arenas in Leh, Kargil, Zanskar, Nubra, Changthang, Shaam and Drass to enable year-round training and competitions.
The proposal also included talent development by organizing training camps for young Indian players in all States affiliated with IHFI in collaboration with international coaches, with a focus on Central Asia and Europe.
The former MP also demanded integrating Ice Hockey into mainstream Indian sports by holding regular national-level championships starting from Ladakh.
He also voiced for procuring high-quality equipments ensuring Indian players to gain exposure to international tournaments.
Union Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya assured his commitment to advance Ladakh’s sports ecosystem. Recognizing Ladakh’s unique geographical and cultural advantages, he emphasized government’s readiness to invest in winter sports infrastructure and develop Ice Hockey at both grassroots and professional levels.
