JAMMU, Sept 8: Members of Jammu Runners Group (JRG) felicitated their star runners Mukesh Kumar and Abhishake Gupta for running between Amritsar and Jammu to spread awareness about general fitness and drug abuse, here today.
Both the runners started their run from Amritsar on the morning of 31st August, 2019 and finished it on 1st of September, 2019 covering a distance of around 200 kilometers. The duo ran around 100 kilometers on each day.
Narrating the heroic effort of both the runners on the occasion, Vikram Garg, CA explained to the audience the arduous nature of the task. “Only a runner can imagine how difficult it is to run this much distance under this hot and humid weather”, he said. It is worth mentioning that the duo is first to run this distance between the two holy cities, that too only in two days.
Speaking about the motivation behind undertaking this difficult task, Mukesh highlighted the prevalent influx of drug abuse in Jammu amongst youth and that how the drug culture which has entered in Jammu from neighbouring State is spoiling the future of young boys and girls in and around Jammu. As per him if the youth is motivated towards healthy lifestyle, the menace of drugs can be defeated. He expressed his strong belief that running as sports and as hobby can motivate youth towards healthy lifestyle and positive outlook. Sharing his experience during their run, Mukesh narrated how the general public greeted them on their way at different places when they learnt about cause of their run. At Amritsar and at Kathua, local runners joined them for few kilometers accompanying them as token of their acknowledgement of the noble cause taken up by the duo. In a lighter note, he mentioned how weather gods listened to their prayers for rain showers on second day of their run when the hot conditions were draining them of their much needed energy.
Both were presented with mementos by the senior members of JRG which included female runners also.
