JAMMU, June 30: Stanzin Youthoj, a senior mountaineer of Mountaineering Association of J&K returned here today after participating in a Mountaineering Expedition to Bhagirathi-II peak (6512M).
She was part of an all women expedition organized by Indian Mountaineering Foundation, the apex body for adventure sports in the country. Led by Bimla Negi of Uttarakhand, an Everester, the team had 12 climbers from 10 different states including Anita Devi of Manipur, another Everester.
The 17 member team which also included Hemant, a doctor, two guides and 2 cooks was flagged off from Indian Mountaineering Foundation Complex, New Delhi on June, 1 2013 by Prem Singh, one of the top mountaineers of the country.
The team reached Gangotri on June 3 and set off for the Base Camp at Nandanban the next day. The 25 km trek to Nandanban through Bojbasa was very exciting. Enroute the team crossed Gomukh, the snout of Gangotri glacier, destination for most of the pilgrims visiting Gangotri. Beyond this sacred place starts the wonderful world of trekkers and mountaineers.
