JKP wrestler Surjit clinches Dera Kesari Dangal title

REASI, Apr 14: The 33rd Dera Kesari Dangal was held with great enthusiasm at the holy shrine of Dera Baba Banda Bahadur as part of the Baisakhi celebrations.
The traditional wrestling event was organized in memory of the great saint, warrior, and martyr Baba Banda Bahadur by the Prabandhak Committee and Baba Banda Bahadur Sikh Samardi, in collaboration with the J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association. The event was conducted under the overall supervision of Wrestling President Shiv Kumar Sharma and Baba Jatinder Paul Singh Sodhi.
In the title bout, J&K Police wrestler Surjit Singh defeated Sahil to win the 33rd Annual Dera Kesari Dangal title 2026. Surjit was awarded a cash prize of Rs 8,000 along with the traditional Gurj (Gadda) and Patta, while runner-up Sahil received Rs 6,000.
In the second main bout, Billu defeated Vikas and won Rs 5,000, while Vikas received Rs 4,000. In the third bout, Amit triumphed over Prit Paul, winning Rs 4,500, while Prit Paul received Rs 3,500. The fourth bout was won by Billu against Vicky, while the fifth bout was won by Murad Ali against Billa.
A total of 48 exciting bouts were held during the dangal, and prize money of around Rs 1.5 lakh was distributed among the wrestlers. Dy SP Headquarters Vishal Singh Jamwal was the chief guest and distributed the prizes, while Suresh Singh attended the event as the guest of honour. The function was presided over by Shiv Kumar Sharma. The bouts were officiated by Lochan Singh, Prahlad Singh, Sunny Sharma, Tuleyinder Kumar, and Tirath Ram.
Prominent members of the organizing committee included Sant Kumar Juneja (Chairman), Prem Dureja (Vice Chairman), Dr. Shiv Shanker Pahwa (National President), Ved Parkash Makker (Vice Chairman), Darshan Rewari (Vice President), Pritam Bhayana (General Secretary), and Krishan Pal Jawa (Vice Chairman).
