SRINAGAR, Oct 10: Continuing their brilliance, the Jammu and Kashmir handball teams stormed into the finals of the ongoing 29th Sub Junior boys and 14th Mini Girls Handball Championships, being organized by J&K Handball Association at Indoor Stadium and Bakshi Stadium, here.
Earlier, in Sub Junior boys, J&K drubbed West Bengal in the semifinal by 7 goals (27-20) in tough contest. For J&K, Virender was the star performer, who scored 10 goals.
Meanwhile, in the Mini girls section, J& K girls scripted a narrow win over formidable Delhi team by 2 goals (10-8) and got berth in the finals. Reshika Khajuria was the top scorer with 6 goals for the host team.
In other matches of Sub Junior boys, UP trounced A P by 4 goals (21-17), Bihar got better of Maharashtra by 4 goals (33-29) and Delhi thrashed Rajasthan by 15 goals (23-8).
In other match of Mini girls, Haryana beat Kerala by 9 goals (24-15).
Jaipal Singh, Director Youth Services and Sports was the chief guest in today’s proceedings, who interacted with the players on the occasion. He was accompanied by SM Bali, Secretary General Handball Federation of India, Ashok Kumar, Vice President SGFI and Senior Vice President J&K Handball Association and Sheikh Fazal, former Secretary J&K State Sports Council.
