9th National Pencak Silat C’ship

SRINAGAR, Mar 31: J&K remained overall champion in Pre Teen, Sub Junior and Junior categories, while Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra stood 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 9th National Pencak Silat Championship which was organised at Indoor Sports Complex Polo Ground, here.
The eight days championship was inaugurated on March 24 which was organized by the Indian Pencak Silat Federation in collaboration with the Pencak Silat Association of J&K and J&K State Sports Council.
Around 2100 players and officials from more than 30 States and UTs participated in this event. In this event, participants of Paramilitary forces and JK Police teams also participated in the senior category.
President International Pencak Silat Federation, Kishor Prakash Yewale said that they were expecting more students in this event but due to pandemic, some players couldn’t participate.
Before start of the championship two days refresher coach courses were also conducted in which Malaysian and other senior masters taught new rules and regulations of the game to coaches through virtually.
Aqsa a participant from Srinagar said, “It was a good opportunity for all of us that this mega event was held in Kashmir in which various players from Valley participated in this event and won laurels for J&K.”
Mohammad Iqbal CEO Indian Pencak Silat Federation, Kishor Prakash Yewale president Indian Pencak Silat Federation, secretary general Indian Pencak Silat Federation Iqbal Mufti Hamid, Irfan Aziz Bota chief coach were among the dignitaries who graced the event.
