JAMMU, Jan 6: National Federation of the Blinds honoured senior Judo coach of the J&K Sports Council, Suraj Bhan Singh for promoting sports among the blinds and producing medal winners from the Union Territory at the National level.
The Award was presented on World Brail Day celebrations at Lodi Road, Satya Sain Auditorium, New Delhi by general secretary of the Federation, S K Rungta. He appreciated Suraj Bhan for his dedicated efforts to promote sports among the Blinds of J&K.
While reading citation, Suraj Bhan was credited with 22 medals (six gold, seven silver and nine bronze) won by his blind trainees at the National Championship held at Gorakhpur in 2018 and at Hyderabad in 2019.
Two of his trainees were also selected for the Commonwealth Blind Judo Championship. Suraj Bhan’s trainees also included those girl students of LBM School for Sightless, Roopnagar in Jammu.
Professor Kusumlata Malik (vice president) and Mohinder K Badyal (convener) of National Federation of the Blind were also present.
