J&K faces Telangana in summit clash

JAMMU, Dec 1: Defeating their rivals in the semifinals at Shrine Board Sports Complex, Katra, the eves of Jammu and Kashmir and Telangana have made it to the finals of the ongoing 61st National School Games-2015-16 in the discipline of Cricket Under-17 Girls, being organized by the Directorate General, Youth Services & Sports, under the auspices of School Games Federation of India (SGFI) here.
Now, in the summit clash, J&K will lock horns with Telangana at MA Stadium tomorrow.
Earlier, in the first semifinal, J&K defeated Andhra Pradesh by 5 wickets in a thrilling contest.
Chasing a modest total of 67 runs in the stipulated 15 overs, J&K needed 9 runs in the last over, which they got on the penultimate ball to register an exciting victory and seal berth in the finals.
Earlier, batting first, J&K bowlers bowled with nagging line and teasing length to restrict formidable Andhra Pradesh to 66 runs in 15 overs. Sindhuja was the top scorer with 20 runs, while Tajesvi contributed 18 runs to the total. For J&K, skipper Sanjana and Pushpa claimed one wicket each.
In reply, J&K chased the target by losing 5 wickets, thus won the match by 5 wickets. Pushpa contributed well made 18 runs, while Sanjana scored valuable 17 runs to the total. For AP, Sindhuja took 3 wickets, while Avasvi claimed one.
The Jammu and Kashmir team is being accompanied by Anju Gupta as manager and Pankaj Sasan and Satika Sharma as coaches, while the team was selected by Rajesh Dhar and Anju Gupta.
In another semifinal, Telangana beat Punjab by 30 runs. Batting first, Telangana scored a fighting total of 98 runs in the stipulated 15 overs. Trisha scored a magnificent fifty (58), while Chandana contributed 19 runs to the total. Mannat took the lone wicket to fall.
In reply, Punjab managed to score 69 runs in 15 overs by losing 9 wickets, thus lost the match by 30 runs. Parul top scored with 25 runs, while Kanika chipped in with 10 runs. Sri Mukhi took 1 wicket for Telangana.
The matches were officiated by Sajad Ahmed, Sheikh Naseer Ahmed, Atul Solanki, Ashish Galgale, Balraj B and Raj Kumar.
Earlier, the matches were inaugurated by a galaxy of dignitaries including Dr MK Kumar, Additional CEO Shrine Board, Ajay Khajuria, Registrar SMVD University and Ashok Kumar, Director Sports SMVDSB and senior vice president School Games Federation of India (SGFI), besides Shiv Kumar Sharma, Joint Secretary J&K State Sports Council, Neeraj Gupta, DS Bahu and Amit Varmani.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Rajinder Singh, Prakash, Rakesh Wazir, S L Dubey, Virender Kesar, RS Manhas, Ajay Singh, Mohan Singh, Rajan Tharmat and Arjun Singh.
It was sheer-dint of hard-work by the officials of the DYSS, Parminder Singh Manhas and Raj Kumar, which enabled the department to organize the matches in this picturesque Sports Stadium.
Meanwhile, the final match will be held between J&K and Telangana at 8:30 am, which will be followed by concluding function at 2 noon at MA Stadium, while the match for the third place between AP and Punjab will be held at University of Jammu grounds at 8:30 am.
