JAMMU, Feb 8: Jammu and Kashmir eves outplayed their counterparts from Gujarat by 19 runs to stay alive in the ongoing 62nd National School Games in the disciplines of Under-19 Girls Cricket and Under-19 Boys and Girls Tennis Cricket, being organized by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports at various venues, here.
Earlier, J&K won the toss and decided to bat first. Batting first, J&K scored a fighting total of 105 runs in the stipulated 20 overs at Jammu University ground. Sonika was the top scorer with 42 runs, while Ananya contributed 9 runs to the total. For Gujarat, Rajvee scalped 3 wickets and Dhruvi claimed one.
In reply, Gujarat managed to score 86 runs, thus lost the match by a margin of 19 runs. Ayushi top scored with 18 runs, while Anmol scored 9 runs to the total. For J&K, Ishani was the wrecker-in-chief, who took 4 important wickets.
In another match of Cricket Under-17 Girls at MA Stadium, Punjab defeated Chhattisgarh by 10 wickets. Chhattisgarh bundled out for paltry total of 43 runs, while Punjab scored the required runs in 8.3 overs.
In other matches of Cricket Under-17 Girls, Telangana got better of Delhi by 7 wickets at MHAC School Nagbani ground, Andhra Pradesh defeated Tamil Nadu by 10 wickets in a one-sided contest at MA Stadium and Punjab drubbed Haryana by 7 wickets at the same venue.
Meanwhile in Tennis Cricket at Heritage School ground, J&K beat Uttar Pradesh by 5 wickets, while Assam prevailed over DAV by 5 wickets.
