JAMMU, Dec 7: Trouncing Jhanvi in straight sets, Shazar Sharma clinched the women’s singles title, while Jayesh Singh bagged the men’s singles title by outplaying Sunpreet in straight sets in the finals of the 35th Jammu District Table Tennis Championship, which concluded at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here today.
Jayesh also clinched the Youth boys’ title beating Ritvik Gupta again in straight sets 12-10, 11-07, 11-06. However, Ritvik emerged junior boys champion beating Sunpreet in a close contest that lasted for full five sets, with final score as 12-10, 12-14, 11-09, 09-11, 14-12.
In women’s singles final, Shazar Sharma trounced Jhanvi in straight close sets of 11-08, 11-09, 11-08.
In junior girls’ event, Jhanvi beat Shreya 3-1 by (11-03, 11-07, 08-11, 11-05). Jhanvi, who lost in the women’s singles final, won the sub-junior girls event beating Shreya 3-1 (9-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-9).
The veteran men’s singles event was won by Mahesh Sharma, who defeated S Mathew 3-1 (11-09, 09-11, 11-09, 11-08).
Meanwhile in the men’s finals and the prize distribution function, MLC Vijay Bakaya was chief guest. who distributed prizes among the winners on the occasion.
Prominent among others present were VK Magoo, Rajan Sharma, Riaz Ahmed, Narinder Singh, Manmeet Kour, Sunil Sharma, Sheetal Gandotra, Rajan Sharma, Satish Gupta, Sanjay Gupta and Vikas Sharma.
