Jammu, STC win inaugural ties

JAMMU, Apr 18: The invitational Basketball tournament organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Basketball Association got underway at the Basketball arena of the MA Stadium here.
Teams from districts and institutions of Jammu province are participating in the three day event, which is being organized ahead of the National Basketball Championship for junior men at Ludhiana next month.
In the inaugural matches played today, STC boys outclassed Air force school Jammu 47-24, with winners leading 34-08 at the breather. Gourav Rajwal, Sumit and Abhinav were the archtects of STC boys’ victory. In the other match, Jammu district got better of a fighting Kathua district 52-30.
The winners led 30-22 at the half time. Shivam Heer for the winners, while Ankit from the losers were the main scorers for their respective teams. Ranbir Singh, Shubham Sharma, Rohan Kundal and Amanjot singh officiated today’s matches.
The tournament was declared open by K K Gupta, Chief Engineer Design, Inspection and Quality Control in the presence of Ashok Gupta, IPS (retired) and Jawant Rai Gupta, president Rotary Club.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest appreciated the role of JKBA in promoting the game in the state and underlined the importance of games and sports in positive channelization of the energies of the youth of the country.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Dr. Vikram Handa, gen secretary JKBA, Ashok Singh, treasurer, Amarjeet Singh, Chairman Selection committee JKBA, VK Sharma/ I/C STC Jammu, Ashok Singh manager MA Stadium, Satish Gupta, manager Indoor Sports Complex, Coaches of the Sports Authority of India and parents of players.
The tournament is being sponsored by Addiction Gym Spa Channi Himmat.
