JAMMU, Nov 16: District Jammu and district Srinagar registered wins over their rivals in the State Level Inter-District Under-17 Girls Cricket Tournament, which got underway at Govt High School Satwari ground, here today.
The 3-day Tournament, which is as part of the annual calendar of activities to select the team for 61st National School Games Under-17 Girls Cricket, is being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, under the patronage of its Director General, Jehangir Mir and under the overall supervision of Madan Lal, Joint Director, Jammu and Sukhdev Raj Sharma, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Jammu.
In all, 48 girls drawn from the districts of Jammu, Srinagar and Kishtwar are taking part in the Tournament.
In the inaugural match, district Srinagar defeated Kishtwar in an easy contest by 6 wickets. Batting first, Kishtwar scored a paltry total of 53 runs in the stipulated 12 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process. Shikha and Sania Kousar were main scorers with 17 and 15 runs respectively. For district Srinagar, Abrar-ul-Huda was the pick of the bowlers, who bagged 3 important wickets, while Muskan took 2 wickets.
In reply, district Srinagar chased the target in 9 overs by losing 4 wickets to win the match by 6 wickets. Abrar was the top scorer with unbeaten 20 runs, while Muskan contributed 9 runs to the total. Tania and Asma took 2 and one wicket for Kishtwar.
In another match, district Jammu defeated district Srinagar by 9 wickets.
Winning the toss and batting first, Srinagar scored a meagre total of 43 runs in the stipulated 12 overs. Rehana was the top scorer with 6 runs, while no other batswomen could face the bowlers of Jammu district, who bowled with nagging line and teasing length. Sanjana and Gunjan took 2 wickets each from Jammu district.
In reply, Jammu district chased the target easily in 5.3 overs, losing one wicket in the process, thus won the match by 9 wickets. Sanjana top scored with 16 runs, while Sonia contributed 14 runs to the total.
The officiating panel included Saleem-ul-Rehman, Mohd Farooq, Jagtar Singh, Suresh Singh, Pankaj Sasun, Mukesh Sharma and Satika Sharma, while the selectors Anju Gupta, Zonal Physical Education Officer, Akhnoor and Rajesh Dhar, Lecturer in Physical Education, Govt HSS Camp, Bohri, Jammu were present during the matches.
