Jammu, Aug 2: A young girl from Jammu and Kashmir has topped in the discipline of fencing sport from National Institute of Sports, Patiala, Punjab and qualified the course to become a professional coach.
Shreya Chib, 21, from Jammu, had made the state proud by securing ‘A’ grade and topping the list in the discipline of fencing after completing 10 month long professional course with two-month internship in addition from NIS Patiala.
Brought up in a family having sports background, Shreya after completing professional course wants to train upcoming fencers to further uplift the sport of fencing in the state and produce international stuff .
Shreya, who started playing fencing as a player nearly a decade ago, said, ”I was the youngest among 10 candidates appeared for the professional course in fencing at NIS but claiming top position gives one a great feeling.”
”As a player I had learnt a lot in the game but after practising it as a professional by completing my academics into fencing, my skills have further strengthened with new techniques, which will help me in my profession.”
”I want to give my best in this field and aiming to coach budding fencers so that fencing see new light in state sports,” she expressed.
Lauding her mentor Rachna Jamwal, a professional coach with Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council, Shreya said, ”my coach deserves all kudos in my upbringing into the field.” ‘

Expert in ‘foil’ event, Shreya is also inspired by mother Veena Chib, a professional hockey coach, who have many national medals in her kitty and had captained State Women Hockey team for ten consecutive years.
”My mother is a hockey coach but I never liked the game because I wanted to achieve something in individual sport, which ultimately I got from fencing,” she said.
The fencer also thanked father Parvesh Chib, a businessman, who she said, had supported her in her professional career academics.
