JAMMU, Aug 26: District Jammu girls clinched Under-14 and Under-19 basketball titles, while Jammu boys will face Udhampur in Under-19 boys summit clash of the Divisional Level Inter-District Basketball Tournament for boys and girls of all age groups, which got underway at Gulshan Ground Basketball Court, here today.
The Tournament organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports was inaugurated by Director General Youth Services and Sports, Navin Aggarwal in an impressive, colourful and well attended function.
He was also accompanied by Tirath Ram, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Jammu.
Earlier, in Under-14 girls final, Jammu blanked Samba by eight points to nil (8-0) in a one-sided affair to clinch the trophy, while in Under-19 girls final, Jammu humiliated Udhampur by (17-0) points to win the title. Harman and Jasmine of district Jammu scored 7 baskets each in Under-19 girls category, while Nimsha and Arpita of District Jammu scored 3 baskets each in Under-14 category.
In Under-17 girls title clash will be held tomorrow, while in one match played today, Jammu thrashed Doda by (25-1) points, with Palvi scoring maximum 7 baskets.
The matches were officiated by a panel of experts including Mousmi Verma, Amit Kalsi, Harvinder Singh, Jyoti and Harvinder Kour.
Meanwhile, in the boys section, Jammu district will lock horns with Udhampur in the basketball Under-19 boys summit clash at the same venue tomorrow.
In Under-19 boys semifinals, Jammu crushed Kishtwar by a huge margin of (26-2) points, while Udhampur drubbed Kathua by (26-5) points. Amanjot was the star performer, scoring 12 baskets for Jammu, while Karan scored 10 points in district Udhampur’s fabulous win.
In basketball Under-17 boys, Udhampur has sealed berth in the finals by blanking Doda by (21-0) points and will play against the winner of the semifinal match between Samba and Jammu tomorrow. Earlier, Samba beat Kathua in a close contest in Under-17 boys quarterfinals.
Udhampur defeated Samba by (13-0) points in Under-14 boys semifinals and will face winner of another semifinal match between Doda and Jammu at the same venue tomorrow. Abhinandan of Jammu top scored with 8 baskets.
