IRP organises Wrestling competition

SRINAGAR, Sept 22: IRP-17th Battalion today organised Wrestling competition (Dangal) under the supervision of Battalion Commandant, Benam Tosh at Mattan area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag.
In this competition, top wrestlers of J&K participated and exhibited their wrestling skill. The first bout was played between renowned wrestler of J&K, Binia Pahalwan and Sukhdev Pahalwan of Jammu, whereas bout was played between Binia and Suram Din of Samba and 3rd bout was played between Vijay Pahalwan of Udhampur and Javaid Pahalwan of Anantnag wherein Binia Pahalwan emerged as overall winners, whereas Sukhdev Pahalwan and Suram Din Pahalwan bagged 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively.
The objective of the event was to promote physical fitness and to encourage competition spirit among the jawans.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commandant said that wrestling is the only game which has survived through the ages and was started in India nearly five thousand years ago.
Later, Commandant, Dy Commandant and DySP and other officials honoured the winners with commendation certificates, prize money and trophies.
